Those Magic Moments
Every night Mason sleeps for a long stretch...usually 4-5 hours. He's usually up at 1230 or so. Then he will sleep another 2 or 3 hours. After that second feeding is done..usually around 4AM, I bring him into bed. I know that there are conflicting ideas out there about co-sleeping. And it was honestly something I NEVER thought I would want to do...until he was born. Ideally, we would sleep together all the time but neither John nor I feel that we can provide a safe sleeping environment for Mase in our bed when we are in a deep sleep. Luckily, he sleeps in his pack and play pushed right up against my side of the bed, so he is always within arms reach. Anyway-- sleeping/dozing with him for those few early morning hours is so wonderful. I hold him close and feel his breath on my skin and his heart beating. I often catch myself staring at his precious, peaceful little face. Sometimes, he'll get hungry again and I will nurse him in bed. Side lying nursing was a bit unnatural at first but we've gotten pretty good at it. Sometimes there are moments when I feel like my heart will explode because I love him so much. Savoring these moments. Magic. The best things in life really are free.
