Was that reallllly a 4 day weekend?

It doesn't seem possible but allegedly we've had the past four days off?

Sunday, my mom hosted my baby shower.  It was wonderful; all of my bridesmaids were reunited & I got to see family and friends who I hadn't seen in forever.  My sister-in-law made the trip from Wilkes Barre with Emma & Baby Frank.  The house was decorated with blue baby decor and there were just so. many. gifts.  Baby Tenbus scored his crib bedding, countless adorable onesies and outfits, his bath tub, bottles, travel system, exersaucer, and lots of other loot.  Especially cute was a chocolate kiss candy countdown jar from the Coach Lane Rafferty's filled with hershey kisses- one for John & I, for each day until baby's due to arrive (plus 2 extra weeks worth after that, let's hope we don't need it haha).  Amanda & George were on a week-long break from school & down for a visit, so Amanda got to be here for my shower!!  She made adorable rubber duckie punch which was delicious!!  The cake was also tasty & fit our nursery theme donning a Snoopy.  After the shower was over and mostly just close family & friends remained, I ditched my dress & got into sweats and a t-shirt.  I had a great time visiting with everyone and can't believe I get to do it again with John's side of the family in three weeks!!

Monday & Tuesday John had basketball practice (of course) but in our free time we squeezed in some time with the Knoxes.  Luckily they're home for the whole week so hopefully we'll get to see them a few more times.  We also interviewed a pediatrician and took a tour of our hospital's birth center.  That was really a gut check and made me realize even more that this whole pregnancy thing will ultimately result in CHILDBIRTH!!!  Who knew?!?  Haha.  We tried not to get too overwhelmed by all the information but as much as it was to process, it was nice to see where I would be laboring/delivering/recovering.  Knowledge is power, right?  The nurse we spoke with was so informative and helpful.  Hopefully after some childbirth and breastfeeding classes in March, we will feel even more prepared.

Thanks to everyone who made this weekend a truly unforgettable one.

**I got to come home to this adorable, sweet pup who loves like everyday is Valentine's Day.

Wishing you all lots of love.  Happy Valentine's Day.

Seeing Pink

Coaches vs. Cancer
This weekend, we wore our pink "shoot for a cure" shirts & watched a lot of basketball for the Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser.  Saturday, Sullivan County Community College hosted 6 basketball games including 2 varsity girls games, 2 boys games, and 2 college games.  The money from admission was donated to our local hospital's oncology unit.  John's team & Kevin's team both won their games against Sullivan West & Eldred.  We stayed for a little of the women's college game.  After all the games, John & I went out for a nice dinner just the two of us.  The Tri-Valley girls are now 13-1 and have their last week of regular season basketball coming up.  Can't believe how fast the season has gone!!

After dinner, we had KJ over for a much overdue visit.  He brought me cookies & enjoyed some amaretto sours with John.  Riley must have really loved his detergent or shampoo because he smelled and sniffed and sat practically on top of him the whole evening.

Today, Tasha & I are headed to Middletown for one last momma-to-be hurrah.  She's due in less than a month!!

Four more school days, a conference day, & then we've got a 4 day weekend :)  Time marches on...

Daycare woes. Already.

Our baby hasn't even arrived yet & I hate that I'm already having to think about leaving him.  But, in order to ensure that we find the right place for him come September, it's important to start the search early.  Luckily, John & I will be home together with the baby for the first 6 weeks- if he arrives on time.  Since it is only my second year at Liberty, I did not have much sick time to use for my maternity leave, so 4 weeks of my leave will be paid and 2 weeks will be unpaid.  As long as I'm healed & healthy, I will return to work on June 4th- luckily there will only be 3 weeks of school left & I will then have two whole months with our son :)  John has much more sick time accrued & therefore was able to take a leave from our due date through the end of the school year, entirely paid.  He will be home with baby for three weeks while I finish up the school year.  So, luckily for us, baby won't have to start daycare until he is 4 months & change.

We've decided that we want him in a small, in-home daycare.  We like the idea of him in a smaller setting with a maximum of 5-7 other kids and in a home-like environment, with one provider all day long.  (Not looking to put down larger daycare centers at all, just what we prefer).  I asked around at work and talked with my friends who have kids and came up with a few names of providers in the area.  My first interview with a provider is this Wednesday so I've been working on questions to ask.  Soon-to-be and Been-There-Done-That Parents please feel free to comment & let me know what I'm forgetting!!

What is the routine of a typical day?

As of right now, what are/will be the ages children (and in the fall)?

What is your maximum capacity?

What happens if a child is sick?

Are you certified in first aid/infant CPR?

What sanitary practices do you follow?

Are the children always supervised- even during sleeping/napping?

Do you have any pets/animals in the home?

What are your "emergency plans" (fire or child injury)?

What happens if you are sick or on vacation?

Do you ever leave home with the children/drive them anywhere?

What is your policy on administering medications?

Where will my baby sleep?

What materials/tools do you provide and what will I need to bring?

Payment options?  Check?  Cash?  Biweekly?

Do you charge for days when the baby is "absent" due to sickness or vacation?

How much do you charge if I'm late picking up?

Do you provide bills/receipts for income tax credits?

As a post script of sorts, and probably more for myself than anyone, I need to say that if I had my way I would be a stay-at-home mom until our kids went to school.  I never thought I would feel that way but as I get farther and farther into my pregnancy, all I can think about is wanting to spend as much time as possible with our son.  There is nothing I would love more than to be with my baby every minute of the day.  It would be great if I had the kind of job where I could work from home or part-time but it's not in the nature of public education.  Unfortunately, student loans, car payments, insurance, and the mortgage would not get paid on one salary alone.  It wouldn't be a matter of just cutting a few luxuries; we would not be able to provide for our family with me at home.  I have to keep telling myself this because sometimes I feel so guilty for not being able to stay home.  Luckily, I will have the two blissful months of summer every year & I will just have to make the most of those :)

"Whoa look at those cheeks..."

We went down to Monroe today for our elective 3D/4D ultrasound.  It was pricey but so worth every penny.  We got to see our baby boy yawn, smirk, suck on his wrist, kick, stretch, and nearly shove his foot into his mouth.  These things might seem silly to anybody else, but they are just about the cutest and biggest-deal-ever when you are a first-time mom/dad sort-of-'seeing' your baby for the first time.  Within about five seconds of putting the wand on my belly, the ultrasound technician made a comment about how huge his cheeks looked.  The technology was amazing.  I feel like I got to know my son a little bit today :)  In addition to the 80 or so still images, we also got a DVD video of the ultrasound.  I would definitely recommend the folks at Hudson Valley Ultrasound to any expecting parents in the area.  They were fabulous to work with.  Baby's heartbeat was around 130 today and he is positioned with his head resting on my bladder (which explains the increase in my bathroom trips) and his tush/legs up under my ribs.

Here's a peek at our little boy at 28 weeks, 6 days, growing, growing, growing....
